Welcome to Gamaliel Ayeyemi Foundation.

When I conceived the idea to start an NGO for Children living with Sickle Cell in 2024, the name that came to my mind was “Gamaliel Ayeyemi Foundation”.

Why Gamaliel?

Gamaliel is the Biblical name of one of my three (3) sons, which means “the reward of the Lord”.

I see Gamaliel as a unique name. This fits into what I would love the name of the Foundation to bear. Indeed, God is my reward!

Why is my focus on Sickle Cell Disease (SCD)?

I focused on Sickle Cell in particular because I am a Nurse. I worked in Nigeria as a Registered Nurse for 17 years before I moved to the U.K. in 2021, where I currently work as a Registered Nurse. As a nurse in both Nigeria and in the U.K., I’ve had the experience of working with Sickle Cell patients; and I also have someone close to me that has a Sickle Cell child. So, I have seen the health challenges and stigma Sickle Cell patients go through.

I discovered that Sickle Cell medication is totally free for patients in the United Kingdom where I currently live. Because of the bad economic situation in my home country (Nigeria), people find it hard to afford the routine/daily medication for SCD; and as a result, many go into crisis.

I’ve seen how Sickle Cell Children thrive so well in the U.K. through routine medication, which is not the case in my home country, Nigeria. So, I have decided to be a blessing to such people.

I had always wanted to be a source of blessing to people around me. When I clocked 40 on May 21, 2024, I had the burden in my heart to setup a Sickle Cell Foundation to support people that cannot afford Sickle Cell medication. In my own little way, I felt I could be of help to children with SCD who cannot afford their medication.

I have decided to be an advocate in the area of Sickle Cell Disease because I believe every child with SCD deserves good quality of life.

This was what gave birth to Gamaliel Ayeyemi Foundation.
